Aussie Road Trip is a thousand pieces of pure Australiana, and the detail is where it earns its keep. Koalas and kangaroos, kookaburras, surfboards, beaches, red dirt and outback road signs, with small things tucked into corners that you won't notice until you're hunting for a piece of sky at eleven at night. That's the mark of a good puzzle: the picture keeps giving you something new right through the build.

It's artist designed rather than stock imagery, which is the whole reason Journey of Something exists. Two friends in Melbourne started the brand because every puzzle on the shelf was a horse grazing in a paddock, and they thought the world deserved better. They were right.

Finished it comes in at 70cm by 50cm, which is a proper size. Big enough to be a real project, big enough to look like a piece of art if you glue and frame it, and exactly the sort of thing that works on a caravan park wall or above a desk.

It arrives in a soft cloth drawstring bag rather than a box of loose pieces, so storage is tidy and nothing spills in a cupboard. A small thing, done properly.

A thousand pieces is a solid few evenings for most people, longer if you're doing it alone. The variety in the artwork helps considerably, since there's always a section with enough going on to give you somewhere to start. No endless expanse of identical blue sky here.

How big is it finished?
70cm by 50cm, so you'll want a decent table or a puzzle mat. Worth checking the space before you tip it out, because there's nothing worse than running out of room at piece seven hundred.

Can I frame it?
