Product Info (That's Actually Helpful)...

Everyone has a bit of this country they'd claim as theirs. This puzzle has most of them in it.

The Australia Edition is a thousand pieces of landmarks from right across the country, the Opera House and Uluru among them, illustrated rather than photographed. That's what lifts it. Where a photo puzzle gives you a hundred pieces of identical blue sky, this one gives you colour, pattern and painterly detail the whole way through, so there's always somewhere to make progress.

It's the work of Miranda Sofroniou, an illustrator and surface pattern designer originally from London and now living and working in Melbourne. Her style mixes loose painterly strokes with fine detail, which is exactly why the finished puzzle looks like a piece of art rather than a jigsaw.

Finished it's 70cm by 50cm, a generous size that works beautifully glued and framed. Plenty of people do exactly that, and it's a lovely thing on a hallway or study wall.

It comes with a soft cloth drawstring bag as well as the box, so the pieces stay together in the cupboard and nothing spills. A small thing, done properly.

Of course we had to bring this one in. We love all things Australia, and the box itself is genuinely beautiful, the sort you don't mind leaving out on a shelf between builds.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it?
A thousand pieces is a few good evenings, longer on your own. The illustrated style makes it considerably more pleasant than a photographic puzzle, because the colour and pattern give you somewhere to start no matter which section you're in.

Which landmarks are in it?
Icons from right across the country, with the Sydney Opera House and Uluru among them. Half the enjoyment is recognising the places you've actually been to, which for most Australians is a decent number of them.

Should I get this one or the Aussie Road Trip puzzle?
Both are 1000 pieces at 70 x 50cm from the same brand, so it comes down to the picture. Australia Edition is landmarks and places, painterly and art-like, and it's the better one to frame. Aussie Road Trip is wildlife, beaches, surfboards and road trip nostalgia, with more hidden details to hunt for. If you're buying for someone who's travelled, go landmarks. If it's for a family or a caravanner, go the road trip.

Can I frame it?
Absolutely, and it's one we'd recommend for it given the artwork. Puzzle glue from a craft shop, a flat surface and a 70 x 50cm frame is all it takes.

Who is the artist?
Miranda Sofroniou, an illustrator and surface pattern designer from London who now lives and works in Melbourne. Her style blends painterly strokes with fine detail, which is why the finished thing reads as art.

Does it come in a box or a bag?
Both. The box is lovely enough to leave out on a shelf, and there's a soft cloth drawstring bag inside so the pieces stay contained between builds.

Is it a good gift?
One of the easiest we stock, especially for anyone who's travelled this country or misses it. It posts well overseas too, which makes it a solid option for family abroad.

Is it made in Australia?
Journey of Something are an Australian owned brand and the artist is Melbourne based. Like most puzzles, manufacturing happens overseas to the brand's specifications.

🌟 Adventure Awaits Tip

Do the border first, then pick a landmark and build outwards from it. Illustrated puzzles reward working in sections rather than hunting piece by piece, and you'll get there considerably faster. Have a browse through our full Puzzles collection for more.
