That moment is what separates a ball run from a building set. A tower is finished when it's finished. A ball run is never finished, because there's always one more thing to try. Steeper. Longer. What if the slide goes there instead? What if we make it turn twice? Can I use this on its own, or do I need other Connetix?
It works on its own, and the five standard squares included give you enough to build a basic structure to run the ball through. That said, it really opens up with a Creative Pack alongside it, since more tiles means taller runs and more elaborate builds. Plenty of people buy this as the second Connetix purchase for exactly that reason.
What does the launcher actually do?
It's a piece with a button that fires the ball into the run rather than relying on gravity alone. That extra force is what makes the experimenting interesting, because a child can vary how hard they press and see how far the ball gets.
What's the stopper for?
It plugs into any connector point and blocks or redirects the ball, sending it down a different path. It means one build can produce several different runs without taking anything apart, which is more entertaining than it sounds.
Are the balls wooden or plastic?
Wooden, and it makes a difference. They've got enough weight to carry properly through turns and slides, and they sound better doing it. Two are included.
Is a 3 year old capable of building a working run?
Building one alone, not usually. Three year olds tend to help build and then spend a long, happy time launching the ball, which is arguably the best part anyway. The independent designing and troubleshooting tends to arrive somewhere around five or six, and this is a set they grow into rather than out of.
Does it fit with Connetix we already own?

How tall can you build it?
That depends on how many tiles you've got. With just this pack you'll build a modest run. Add a Creative Pack and you can go considerably higher, which is where children start discovering that taller means faster and that faster means the ball leaves the track. That discovery is the good bit.
Is it noisy?
There's a wooden ball rattling through plastic tubes, so it isn't silent. It's a cheerful sort of noise rather than an irritating one, but worth knowing if you're after something quiet.
