Product Info (That's Actually Helpful)...

"Does your cat look evil?" is a legitimate question in this game, and it works alarmingly well as a strategy.

That's the thing about Guess the Feline. The rules suggest sensible questions like "is your cat wearing glasses", and you can absolutely play that way. But the moment somebody asks "if your cat was a person, would you date them?" and the whole table has to agree on an answer, the game becomes something else entirely. You will learn things about your family this way, and not all of them will be comfortable.

Mechanically it's simple. You each pick a cat in secret, take turns asking yes or no questions, and fold down the ones that don't match until you're confident enough to name your opponent's. Thirty seconds to teach, quick rounds, and most people play three without noticing.

The artwork is what makes the subjective questions possible. Every cat is illustrated by Lyn Paige, whose work draws on whimsical antiques and Victorian folk art, all vibrant colour and real personality. You end up reading a cat's character rather than ticking off its features, which is a far more entertaining way to lose.

We picked this one up at Gift Fair alongside the dog version, and the artwork sold us immediately. A no brainer for all the pet lovers out there.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play?
Each player picks a cat in secret. You take turns asking yes or no questions and folding down the cats that don't fit, until you're confident enough to name your opponent's. First to guess correctly wins. It takes about thirty seconds to teach.

What are the best questions to ask?
The physical ones get you there faster, but the subjective ones are where the fun lives. "Does your cat look evil?" and "would your cat knock a glass off a table on purpose?" turn a quick game into a proper argument.

How many players?
Two, with a tray each. Works beautifully for couples, siblings, or a grandparent and a grandchild at the kitchen table.

What age is it suitable for?
Anyone old enough to ask and answer a yes or no question, so roughly school age and up. The subjective questions land better with older kids and adults, while younger ones are perfectly happy with "is your cat wearing a hat".

Is there a dog version?
There is. Guess the Doggy plays identically but has its own artwork by a different illustrator, Emma Morgan, in ink and watercolour. So the two sets look quite distinct rather than being the same pictures with different animals. If the household is split between cat people and dog people, both settles it permanently.

Who did the artwork?
Lyn Paige, who takes her inspiration from whimsical antiques and Victorian folk art and works in bold, vibrant colour. The artwork is genuinely what sets this apart from an ordinary guessing game.

Is it a good gift?
One of the easiest we stock for a cat person. Funny, quick to learn, lovely enough to leave on a shelf, and it actually gets played rather than opened once and forgotten.

🌟 Adventure Awaits Tip

Ban the obvious questions after the first round. Once "is it wearing glasses" is off the table, people have to get creative, and that's when the game becomes properly funny. Have a browse through our full Family Games collection for more.
