I was very excited to receive the tye dye kit as it is something I have always wanted to try. I had an old white t shirt which was my item of choice. I had pre-washed it, and done all the prep work to get it ready. I found the instructions quite straightforward and used the rubber bands to bundle the t shirt to create the effect I wanted. I applied the dye and stored it in the bag as directed. The directions advised resting 6 - 8 hours, however online research suggested the longer the better. I ended up resting it about 11 hours, then did the cold water rinse. I have to say I was thrilled with the result, the colours were bright and had a beautiful pattern with no dirty looking colour bleeding but nice graduation between colours. Then the problem occurred. Following the directions I did a 'hot' machine wash on the shortest cycle possible. My heart broke when I pulled it from the machine to discover I had lost two thirds of the colours, all of the yellow, all of the green, all of the purple. I was basically left with a scattering of pink and some faint blue around the edges. Really disappointing after the beautiful result after the cold water rinse. I do want to try it again but next time will follow my instincts and do a cold water machine wash.
